Dean Newlund is the founder and CEO of Mission Facilitators International, a boutique training and development firm based out of Phoenix, Arizona, with the sole purpose of helping organizations become more connected to their purpose and their people. Dean also has a popular podcast called The Business of Intuition.

Dean is grounded in these beliefs: that when we understand our purpose, acknowledge our truth, honor our intuition and forge genuine connections with others, we all have the power to transform our lives and the workplace. As each person cultivates new mindsets and new skills, the fabric of our society is gradually repaired.

In this episode, Dean Newlund discusses:

  • How will our companies be different as we come back to our workplaces due to being in lockdown?
  • Work-from-home’s psychological effect on people – the line between work and home is now fading if not gone.
  • Meetings and their value to people and how much more critical it is to learn how to improve in running meetings right now in the pandemic
  • Burnout, fear, and boldly moving forward even when you’re afraid.
  • The kind of leadership that companies need these days.
  • How to allow innovation, imagination, and creativity in the workplace.

Key Takeaways:

  • One of every company’s most significant needs today is learning how to connect better through virtual means – both in conducting productive meetings and providing emotional support to employees who need it.
  • It’s alright to be afraid – express your fear but don’t let your fear affect how you make your decisions.
  • Stepping out of psychological isolation is necessary – use the common fear to build relationships and have a stronger connection with others.
  • Heroic leadership – leadership that’s empathic, compassionate, and gives people a safe space to give ideas but is also consistent, firm, and unwavering when it comes to “non-negotiable” things.
  • Giving ideas is a vulnerable action. Innovation and creativity require that you provide somebody space to be able to share ideas freely without fear. Remember the “yes, and” technique.

“Heroic leadership is not about being war-like, dominating… It means being able to lead, find a vision, and doing the right thing even in adversity.” —  Dean Newlund.
